The Art of Paper Cutting with Margarita Fick

I am here in San Miguel de Allende
with Rebecca Brooks of recuerda me corazon
and a lovely group of people from all over the USA,
at the beautiful Casa Carmen
at the heart of the city.

Yesterday,
we had the honor of being taught
the art of paper cutting by one of Mexico's
National Treasures,
Margarita Fick.

Six of us gathered round Margarita
as she shared stories of her childhood
where her gift began to flourish...

Margarita taught us
how to make simple paper dolls...

She shared with us how her own childhood art
morphed into legends, stories
and traditions of Mexico,
preserved in the cuts and folds of her art...

 

It was a day
that none of us will ever forget...
